The Fear of the Dark (16)

Our partner planet has requested that we confirm some of their findings. Once again, they claim to have evidence that The Divider was destroyed by a malicious foreign entity. This has become tiresome; every few years it seems they discover some new "proof".

Trigger conditions:
  • The pre-FTL planet in the home system is inhabited
Is triggered only by:

Reaching the Mid-Game year

The Fear of the Dark (17)

Let us humor them.

  • Issue Special Project: Confirm Findings

Horrific Proof

The Fear of the Dark (18)

The Fear of the Dark (19)

[pre-FTL planet name] were right!

The attack we suffered all those years ago was perpetrated by a malicious entity capable of launching massive tungsten projectiles. Only the unique gravitational features of our home system allowed us to survive. By analyzing the data from that fateful night and cross-referencing it with these new findings, it was possible for us to triangulate the source of the asteroid-sized tungsten round.

It originated from an incredibly mineral-rich (yet otherwise unremarkable) system we have had in our logs for decades.

Trigger conditions:
  • Confirmation Requested
Is triggered only by:

Finishing the Confirm Findings special project

The Fear of the Dark (20)

Charge up our hyperdrives.

  • Point of interest: Hunter System

Desolate

The Fear of the Dark (21)

The Fear of the Dark (22)

The system of our old aggressors is barren. While it isn't unusual for an asteroid belt to be mineral-poor, this one has been stripped bare. Not only that, but where there should be minor planetoids rich in rare metals, we have found only dust. However the species inhabiting this system managed to gain the tungsten necessary to construct their bullets, they no longer have the resources to do so now. They don't even seem to be capable of leaving their planet.

While they have done their best to remain hidden, preventing all radio signals and even limiting the use of artificial lights, we have detected life on the system's lone habitable planet.

Trigger conditions:
  • Horrific Proof
Is triggered only by:

Entering the point of interest system

The Fear of the Dark (23)

Let's pay our old nightmares a visit.

The Hunters

The Fear of the Dark (24)

The Fear of the Dark (25)

Observing the Fevorians has been a revelatory experience. In fact, their ideology is remarkably similar to that which produced the split in our own species. However, rather than choosing isolation, the Fevorians opted for a strategy of pre-emptive strikes against any life signs they could detect. Once they ran out of heavy metals, the aliens returned to their world, scraping whatever bare subsistence they could from their now barren home. While the leadership of our partner planet is urging us to adopt the same tactics as the Fevorians, how best to deal with our would-be exterminators is no easy question.

Trigger conditions:
  • Desolate
Is triggered only by:

Surveying Fevor

The Fear of the Dark (26)

We will only be safe when we are alone.

  • Settled Differences modifier added
  • The Fevorian Survivors pre-FTL civilization is destroyed
  • Fevor becomes a Tomb World

The Fear of the Dark (28)

We will show them compassion.

  • A year after constructing an observation post the Fevorian pre-FTL civilization will discover FTL

Embracing the Dark

The Fear of the Dark (29)

The Fear of the Dark (30)

Destroying the Fevorians was... easy? One fewer hunter, threatening our existence. We have not felt this in sync with our partner world for a long time. Perhaps they were right. There are only two types of life out here: the silent and the dead.

Trigger conditions:
  • The Hunters
  • Fevorian pre-FTL civilization destroyed
Mean time to happen:

The Fear of the Dark (31) 3 days

The Fear of the Dark (32)

We shall silence them all.

  • Unity Gained: 5000
  • The pre-FTL planet in the home system is annexed
  • Empire shifts ethics to Fanatic Xenophobe and Militarist
  • Empires gains the Fanatic Purifiers civic
  • If empire has Corporate authority it is changed to Oligarchic

The Fear of the Dark (39)

No, we will not be the aggressors.

  • Unity Gained: 5000
