Hey mamas! I am pregnant with our second due in October and signed up for an Aflac plan in December. It's effective date is 1/1/22. We had a miscarriage in September and I bled for a month or so and then had irregular periods. Irregular like one every two or three weeks and then 5 days long or 3 days, etc. The fine print of the policy says we have to have conceived on or after the effective date. Unbeknownst to us, we got pregnant (I'm assuming) December 31. Great luck, right? The only reason I am assuming that is our date is because my last period started December 30. My tracker app says I ovulated on the 1st of January. So help me out here. Am I screwed out of my maternity leave because we had sex a day too early?? :( I'm really nervous about this because if I don't have this Aflac insurance policy pay out, I will only have a 10 day maternity leave and I don't think my mom heart or body can handle that. We can't afford for me to take FMLA 12 weeks unpaid so I need the 6 weeks paid Aflac offers. They said they would consult my doctor sine the date is so close to the effective date but now I'm curious if my doctor could help me out lol.
I don't at all want to commit insurance fraud, don't get me wrong. But if I didn't ovulate until Jan 1, would it be safe to say it was Jan 1? How do I phrase this to my OB without it sounding like I'm trying to ask him to commit fraud?

Wait your last period started Dec 30? You wouldn’t ovulate two days later

I'll update above to help others out. But we had a miscarriage in September and I had crazy irregular periods since then. Like one every two or three weeks and then long and heavy and short and light, etc so I am so confused lol. Your reply eased my mind a bit!! Thanks!

if you have a good relationship with your OB, I would just lay it out there what your situation is. picking a due date is a mix of science and art...and if it's a 1 day difference, I am sure she will help a mama out.
also, for most women - you ovulate about 1-2 weeks after the last day of your last period...so just from how I'm reading your story, you probably got pregnant in January. hopefully that puts your mind at ease!

This happened to my friend at work. She signed up for the policy and then found out she was pregnant. From what I understand, it depends on your delivery date - hopefully 10 months after the effective date of your policy. Unfortunately, she did not receive the Aflac money. I hope that you do!

I didn't have AFLAC but I did get short term disability through another company. I was also worried because I conceived in March and the policy started 4/1. They never asked me any personal questions like last period/conception date, anything like that. They went by "date of diagnosis" which was my first doctor appointment in April! I think you'll be covered.

what's your actual due date according to your doctor? that will help you calculate the date of conception. what everyone is saying is right though it is possible to ovulate outside of the normal 12-14 days after your period it's not likely. however what I think this means is you can't have known you were pregnant when you took the policy out, which you didn't

I think your due date is what will make or break things...which likely will be determined more by a dating ultrasound than your estimates. I had a previous miscarriage and my "periods" were just like you described. My doctor actually said I was having anovulatory cycles which meant I wasn't actually ovulating. I got pregnant though after what felt like my first real 'period' but my body still wasn't completely back to it's regular 28 day cycle. Also, while we did it the day I thought I was ovulating, I didn't actually conceive until like 4 days later

Case manager here and I have to agree with another poster but they should be looking at date of diagnosis or your last day worked if you were working to determine your date of “disability” not your actual conception date

can you give me an update on what ended up happening?! I’m in a very similar boat and am panicking!! My due date is 8/1, which is the same date that I can collect, but my OB wants to do a c-section between 39-40 weeks and I went into natural labor(which ended in emergency c-section) at 39 weeks. They’re telling me it doesn’t matter what my due date is, if I deliver before 8/1, they won’t pay it out. I’m so upset. ��
